While you're watching a live show at The Calumet Theatre, or simply taking a tour through its opulent exterior, don't be surprised if you happen upon another visitor---one of the otherworldly persuasion. The spirit of Madame Helena Modjeska, a 19th-century Polish actress, is said to have appeared to a fellow (albeit living) actress who forgot her lines during a performance at the theatre a few decades ago. Whether or not you believe in ghosts, you can't deny that The Calumet Theatre has a storied history, including performances by the likes of such artists as Lillian Russell, John Philip Sousa, Sarah Bernhardt, and Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. Today, the theatre hosts a variety of events, from plays to films to musical performances.
